Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday, after the emergency cabinet meeting, announced that the state will release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu from Today night.


Briefing the media, Siddaramaiah said "Releasing water, following the Supreme Court directives after hearing our modification petition, is a very difficult proposition. However, considering the constitutional position of the supreme Court, wherein defying its directions is not an option, the cabinet has resolved to release water from tonight."

Siddaramaiah  assured, that even if the water is released to Tamil Nadu, all efforts will be made to ensure there is no drinking water crisis for Bengaluru , Mysore and Mandya districts


Siddaramaiah also said "I have also sought for an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention. We are hoping the appointment will be given to us on Wednesday, September 14," he said.
